Image by Getty Images via DaylifeTo celebrate her 4 Year Blogiversary, Alina Popescu launched a group project called Blogging and Relationships.
When I started blogging in 2005, I never dreamed how many wonderful people I’d meet and how much I’d learn from them. It would be impossible to remember all of it, but here are some that stand out …
Robyn McMaster, I think, was my first blogging friend. Every time I read her blog I gain a fresh perspective on human behavior. Her blog and even her casual conversation are full of “aha” moments.
Joanna Young is another old friend. One of the most caring people I know, virtually or otherwise. Actually we met and I was finally able to teach her something – how to eat a slice of pizza!
Robert Hruzek may wear a black hat, but he’s definitely one of the good guys. He can’t write a sentence without bringing a smile to my face. We even teamed up, along with George Angus, on my Scrambled Toast humor blog. It’s helping us get to know each other on a new level.
And how about Alina? Having a friend in Romania who can share her history and holidays and travels … I always look forward to seeing her on Twitter.
Jeanne Dininni … Thanks to blogging, we found an opportunity to work together. How cool is that?
Luke Gedeon is a new relationship. He was instrumental in helping me put together a 100-comment post, and then I returned the favor a few weeks later.
Andrew and I go way back – he is now on his second blog, which is marvelous. We’ve been loyal readers of each other’s blogs for years. There must be a reason!
Unlike Andrew, who lives in South Korea, Alina, and Joanna, Barbara Rozgonyi is practically a next door neighbor. We’ve had several little projects together and are sharing the joy of diving into social media.
I could go on and on talking about people like Vicky and Ulla and Karen and Amy and David and Drew and GL, but the point is -
Bloggers, as a group, are generous spirits, warmhearted and welcoming folks. Being an older guy, I grew up in a business environment where you played it close to the vest and hung on to private information for dear life. It’s been such a remarkable and refreshing change to make new friendships where the business and the personal blend almost seamlessly. If you’ve got 30 or 40 years ahead of you in your career, you don’t know how lucky you are! The web is making this the Golden Age of Business.
Addition, February 5 – And how could I forget to mention Rosa Say, my friend and the guiding light of Joyful Jubilant Learning? She’s made a real difference in my blogging life.

Brad, what a heart warming and inspirational post! I agree, bloggers, most of them, are extremely open and welcoming, and as for business, I grew up in a similar environment, even if I’m not your age. Yet this age of collaboration does feel right, and I’m glad I’ve chosen to launch mine in such a corporate and cultural background, crisis or no crisis.

Brad, thanks for such a great description of what blogging friendships are like. I feel blessed to have got to know so many of the people you mention here too. Coming out to see you in Geneva was a particular highlight though – a moment I’ll never forget.

Brad,
Thanks kindly for my inclusion on this list.
No doubt Joanna will be eternally grateful – pizza is one of life’s true pleasures.
As a relatively young fellow, I particularly like your outlook with regard to the next thirty or forty years. Sure, many sectors across the entire range of commerce and industry are likely to experience a challenging period ahead. But taking a longer view, many industries offer enormous potential over the next few decades, and whilst the direction of the web is not easy to predict, I’m sure it will have a role to play in many of these opportunities.
Andrews last blog post..How healthy is Apple’s disclosure?
Brad, I am so glad I met you and I share your sentiments about this wonderful community. Being ahem a bit older myself, I agree with you today’s generation is quite blessed to have such an open work environment. Although I never followed the advice, I did grow up in a corporate environment of “swimming with the sharks,” and being one of “the boys” to succeed. I love the warmth and generosity that we bloggers share and I’m forever thankful for the day I had the courage to hit publish and get connected to all of you.

Joanna, Your visit and SOBCon were treasured memories … and thank you, by the way, for recording so much of it in pictures.
Andrew, Imagine where the economy would be right now without the interactive web. Companies and the business climate in general would be in much worse shape, don’t you think? I find it interesting that the worst performing sector, finance, is roundly criticized for its lack of transparency. Transparency is what the interactive web is all about. Perhaps our financial institutions should participate.
Karen, “Ahem older” is how I plan to state my age from now on!
I know what you’re talking about when you say “courage to hit publish”. We’ve been blogging for awhile now, and it’s easy to forget what a paradigm shift it was in the beginning! But were it not for a little courage, you, Joanna, Andrew, Alina, so many others, and I never would have connected. What a gray world it might have been.

Brad,
Thanks for adding me to your list. It’s certainly been a pleasure knowing and working with you. You’re not just a fantastic blogger — one who would make any blogger’s golden blogging relationships list — you’re also a gem of an “employer”! I definitely consider myself privileged to be involved in your project.
I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments about bloggers. Bloggers are some of the greatest people I know!
Thanks again!
Jeanne
Brad,
thanks for including me in your list. I love to come to your blog and meet you and all the other virtual blogging friends there. It’s like going to a local pub and have a good talk and a pleasant time with people from all over the world, just by sitting at my desk and typing. I love it!

Alina and I met when she visited Chicago for a tech conference about a year ago. How cool to have lunch with someone from Romania that you can communicate with anytime you want online!

Jeanne, In all sincerity, if every “employee” were like you, I would have been manager of the year every year. Thank you for your kind words.
Ulla, It’s been great having you here at Word Sell and seeing you enjoy it so much. I love having my blog compared to a pub!!!
Barbara, The world is shrinking, isn’t it? Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine striking up a relationship with a Romanian, virtual or otherwise. You’ll have to tell me about Alina’s visit next time we talk.
Brad Shorrs last blog post..Blogging Relationships Are Gold for the Soul
Well, Brad, I would certainly have nominated you for manager of the year.
Cheers,

What a fantastic list, Brad, and so touching, too (sniff).
…And, um, really, I didn’t expect to be on it myself. No, no, really… (grin)
Brad,
You are fortunate to have so many great blogging friends. Bloggers are a special group of people.

Brad,
Just one thing which I’ll draw your attention to.
When I clicked on the link to Robyn’s blog in your post above, I was actually directed to Alina’s blog instead – not Robyn’s.
Is it possible that you inadvertently linked to Alina’s blog when attempting to link to Robyn’s?

Brad Shorrs last blog post..Put a Little Love in Your Marketing
Brad, you stopped by my blog when I first started and began to encourage me. It meant so much to a newbie and because of that I “pass it on” to so many others I meet during my fascinating journey of internet connections. Now, you invited me to be part of Twitter, and 38 days ago I joined to see if I would like it. It certainly challenged me in whole new ways, and at the same time introduced me to a whole new round of people. Some I have come to respect more because of their expertise and the work they do. Somehow, our first friends have a special place in our hearts as you do.
Blessings.
