My Best Post of 2008

In her latest group project, Joanna Young asks, what is your best blog post of 2008? Please consider participating. The deadline for submissions is December 24, 2008.

My choice is Waiting for Goodbye.

This post is simply the best because it struck a chord, generated lots of lively and wide ranging conversation, and connected me to bloggers I’m grateful to have met.

I wrote posts that were more informative this year, like my guide to confusing words and phrases.

I wrote posts that were more polished, like In Search of Eloquence.

But “Waiting” has one thing these other posts lack - a life of its own. One thing I’ve learned this year is that readers and commenters are as much a part of the equation as the author. “Waiting” is a prime example of a writer and readers at their best, a collaboration resulting in a content whole much greater than the sum of its parts.

Brad, I love your selection, but more the learning that’s behind it. The conversations at word sell have just grown and grown this year - it’s been wonderful for me to participate in, hope it’s been good for you too as host :-)

Hi Joanna, I can honestly say I’ve had the time of my life getting to know you and so many others here at Word Sell and around the blogosphere this year. We’ve all come a long way, don’t you think?

  3. I knew you’d pick this one, Brad! Everyone love a party, and that was a humdinger, wasn’t it?

Bob, Sure was! The most fun I had in front of a computer screen all year. Glad you enjoyed it, too! :)

  5. Phew! Glad you added that last bit, “… in front of a computer screen…” Otherwise, that would be, y’know, sad. :-D

  6. Missed this post the first time around, Brad - great choice. I like the “a life of its own” award category. So true with this one. Lots of conversation about a topic everyone can relate to. And, your clever [and humorous!] intro really set the stage for commentary.

Hi Barbara, Sorry you missed it - you would have added to the conversation immensely! Anyway, the fact you never know exactly how a post is going to wind up is fun feature of blogging, that’s for sure.

Hi Brad - I enjoyed Waiting For Goodbye too. It reminded me of a few conversations that I wished I could escape from.

I will join in the competition but it will be tough deciding what to choose. It’s hard to remember everything you’ve written over a whole year.

Cath, Combing your archives will take some time … figuring out how to score your posts may as well. Luckily my post was well within the range of my short term memory. :)

    Brad,

You have made a good choice, and your post will certainly take some beating.

That said, I’m sure there will be a diverse range of entries of a very high standard.

This contest is a great idea from Joanna, and I look forward to participating. This time, I will get right onto it so as to avoid my mistake with your contest - missing the deadline.

Hi Andrew, It will be very difficult for you to select the best post from so many good ones. I look forward to seeing your decision.
