bookshelf spectrum, revisitedImage by chotda via FlickrEven though I’ve been writing reader reviews on Amazon for more nearly 10 years, it wasn’t until last week I learned that each review has a permalink. Duh! Thanks to Joanna Young for cluing me in.

Here’s a rundown of marketing and writing books I read in 2008 and can heartily recommend, along with links to my reviews. (If you like any of my reviews, PLEASE give them a “Yes” vote.) Happy reading!

Bryson’s Dictionary of Troublesome Words, by Bill Bryson. A word and language lover’s delight.

Secrets of Social Media Marketing, by Paul Gillin. The (2008) ABCs of social media marketing.

The Art of the Start, by Guy Kawasaki. THE handbook for startups.

Yes!, by Noah J. Goldstein. Scientific theories of persuasion applied to copywriting.

Tuned In, by Craig Stull, Phil Myers, and David Meerman Scott. How companies become brilliant by tapping the power of social media.

Groundswell, by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff. A high altitude look at social media marketing from two Forrester researchers. Lots of useful stats.

Strategy and the Fat Smoker, by David Maister. How to inspire yourself and build inspired organizations.

Stop the Presses, by Esq. Richard S. Levick. Explores two big challenges of social media – reputation management and crisis litigation. A negative take on bloggers.

Meatball Sundae, by Seth Godin. Change your business to fit the Web instead of jamming your outdated model into a new medium.

Marketing to the Social Web, by Larry Weber. One of my favorites – a high level and trench level exploration of social media marketing and large organizations.

The New Influencers, by Paul Gillin. A primer on business blogging from early 2008 that’s still relevant.

Beyond Bullet Points, by Cliff Atkinson. How to transform PowerPoint presentations from snore to soar.

Have you read any of these? What do you think of them?
