The Art of Customer Golf

Originally uploaded by shorrbrad

I finally got to play some golf, and I noticed all kinds of similarities to writing. Here they are – some serious, some not so much.

  1. Both golf and writing require patience.
  2. Both can be, and usually are, frustrating.
  3. Both take practice.
  4. Both take concentration.
  5. The finest practitioners have power and a delicate touch.
  6. Perfection is always sought but never attained.
  7. Neither is easy to do in the rain.
  8. The perfect shot or the perfect phrase can, and often does, occur unexpectedly.
  9. Success is in the little things – putting or careful editing.
  10. Beer tastes great after you finish …
  11. But quality suffers when you drink beer before you finish.
  12. Bad golfers are hackers and bad writers are hacks.
