Cartoon - How Do We Innovate?
Have you ever come up with something new? Really new? Sometimes innovation occurs by accident rather than design. I’m sure King Solomon had no idea he was going to ignite a new trend in fashion as he settled a dispute between two of his subjects.
More often, innovation is, as Thomas Edison famously said about genius, “One percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.” In Think and Grow Rich, a superb book I read recently, author Napoleon Hill says,
Edison failed 10, 000 times before he made the electric light. Do not be discouraged if you fail a few times.
In other words, when it comes to innovation we succeed by failing. And come to think of it, innovators I know are always trying something new. They never give up. They never get discouraged.
