How NOT to Sell Your Products

Everybody’s used to dealing with interruption marketing on TV and your computer screen. But what about in your driveway?

Coming home the other day, I noticed a strange white anomaly in my driveway -

Fortunately, I didn’t drive over it, because it was a plastic bag with ROCKS inside. Not exactly the way to sell landscaping services. But wait!

Read closely, and you’ll see they’re selling painting services. So what’s with the rocks? How about stuffing the flier with a paint swatch, or putting the flier in my screen door or mailbox?

Sure, I’ll notice your bag full of rocks if I run over it, but it won’t persuade me to have you paint my house.

  2. That is certainly strange, Brad. I guess they put the rocks in the bag so that they could throw it at the house instead of walking up to it and sticking it on the house. And then it wouldn’t blow away. And you would be bound to notice what it is and pick it up.

But they risk that any normal human being would be annoyed by that time. Even if they needed a painter, they’d probably make note NOT to use that one.

    Very odd, indeed.

  3. Hi Olivia, you’re probably right. It does get noticed, but I don’t think it’s getting the reaction they’re hoping for.
