Bits and Pieces of Word Sell News

\"Edward Colliers, newspapers on a wooden board\"All-Star Guest Authors Coming in Late August!

There’s an outstanding lineup of guest authors helping me out the last week of August. I’m very excited and honored to have them here –

  • Robert Hruzek, Middle Zone Musings, is a friend, a master storyteller, and an acute observer of the human condition. I can’t wait to see what he’s cooking up for us.
  • Karen Swim, Words for Hire, is a blogger I’m thankful I’ve gotten to know. She writes with passion about topics that get our hearts and minds moving in the right direction.
  • Joanna Young, Confident Writing, has been a great friend almost from the beginning of our blogging days. She helps writers find their confidence and their voice, and I’m sure she’ll inspire us here.
  • Katie Konrath, Get Fresh Minds, courageously volunteered to write a guest post, even though we were complete strangers. Katie’s blog is fabulous, and she has quite an interesting background. I’m glad she volunteered!
  • Drew McLellan, Drew’s Marketing Minute, needs no introduction. Let me just say that I’ve admired his work from day one and he is one of the reasons I started blogging in the first place. Having him here at Word Sell is a real honor.

Thanks you all! If anyone is interested in guest authoring here in September, please let me know.

New Look at Word Sell

You may have noticed I have a new WordPress theme. Lara installed it a few days ago, with no problems whatsoever. The new template uses widgets, which is very handy for moving page elements around. Lara thought this would be a perfect solution for me, since I’m not a programmer and need lots of help changing layouts and adding material to the sidebar.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions for improving my site layout — your feedback has been very helpful in the past.

Handy Social Bookmarking Add-On

Ran across the Shareaholic add-on for FireFox recently. In their words -

Share, bookmark and e-mail web pages quickly without leaving your browser.

Shareaholic makes it easy for you to submit the web page you’re on to your favorite sharing or bookmarking service, including: digg, del.icio.us, facebook, friendfeed, google bookmarks, google reader notes, kaboodle, magnolia, mixx, myspace, pownce, reddit, stumbleupon, tumblr, twitter, and ycombinator. You can also e-mail the web page directly to a friend.

Takes about 10 seconds to install and works like a charm.

  1. Uh-oh… looks like I’m committed now! (’Course, some would argue I should have been committed long ago… but let’s not go there!)

Hey, nice job on the new layout, Brad. Only one suggestion: how about a photo of your mug up there for us?

  2. Hi Robert, I’m working on that photo … may need a new pic.

  3. Brad, there was one thing I was going to mention, your search box is a bit hard to see. The bit where you type the search item is almost invisible (to me anyway). Hope there’s an easy technical fix!

    Joanna

  4. Joanna, if you refresh the screen, it should be fixed. Keep looking, though … there’s just so much to look for, as I’m sure you’ve discovered with your WordPress move.

Robert - does my pic work for you? It’s a little fuzzy but hopefully OK for now.

  5. Brad, I love today’s photo and I love the new look! I have to take time to install my new theme…August is a big month for you and hopefully at the end we’ll get some pictures of you on the dance floor (hint, hint!). :-)

  6. Karen, believe me, you don’t want to see pictures of me dancing.

  7. ROFL!!! Oh, NOW I really, really do want to see those pictures. :-)

  8. Brad,
I am looking forward to reading those guest posts. But I keep on looking forward to your posts, too - I like your writing style very much!

  9. Ulla, thank you so much! What a nice thing to read as I start my day. You just brightened it up, something I think you like to do for everyone.

  10. And we’re still, um, waiting for those pictures… :-D

  11. Listen, I need to be really clear about this. You don’t want to see those pictures. My dancing is on par with Elaine’s in Seinfeld. On a good day.

  12. ROFL!!! OMG that episode was HYSTERICAL!!! I want to sympathize and say something nice, but I am laughing too hard. Um, I’ll try to stop laughing and come back later with kind words. ROFL!

  13. Oh, man, now we REALLY want to see ‘em! Maybe we can get some other Chicago-based blogger to surreptitiously follow you around… heh, heh, heh…

  14. Brad, thanks for using (& mentioning) Shareaholic! :)

  15. Search button is much more visible, thanks!

What’s the dancing story though - have I missed something?

  16. Joanna, if you read back through these comments, I think you’ll get the drift. This conversation has gone in an altogether wrong direction. :)
