Like most bloggers, I like to hit the new year with a new plan. Here it is.
Concentrate on the packaging industry and B2B. That’s where my experience is, and I think the time has come where packaging companies and industrial companies in general are ready for social media marketing. First, social media is no longer a mystery. Second, firms in the packaging sector are using social media with great success, including a few of my clients I’m happy to say. Third, companies are searching as never before for new ways to reach prospects. I’ve created a new Packaging Industry Marketing Services web page to highlight this component of my business.
Bring the How to Write a Web Site project to market as a book or e-book. Karen Swim and I announced this just this week, and we are thrilled with the response. Here’s a chance for bloggers to demonstrate the power of collective wisdom and produce a resource that will be invaluable for small and medium size firms. We encourage you to contribute and invite other bloggers to do the same. I’m adding a “How to Write a Web Site” category for easy reference.
Blogging goals – More community, more information, fewer posts, stay with the humor. I’ve said a million times that the quality of my posts often comes from the conversation. A huge thank you to all the Word Sell readers. Many of you have taken more time than I would ever ask to write thoughtful comments that generate ideas and enthusiasm in the Word Sell community. For those of you who come here just to read – thank you as well. There’s never any pressure to talk unless the spirit moves you.
I’m going to try a three day a week post schedule, and try harder to provide marketing and writing ideas with a dollop of humor. In bad economic times, both are really necessary. We need fresh ideas to keep our businesses moving forward. We need humor to keep our spirits up. I’ll do what I can to help the cause.
Happy New Year,
Brad

Brad, thanks for setting a good example on how to be focused. There’s lots of attention on packaging in general these days. Because you have so much success and knowledge there, that’s a great choice for you.
Also good to see you and Karen teaming up on the How to Write a Web Site project. Creating content is a big challenge that keeps many small and medium sized businesses from achieving success on – and off – line.

Sounds like a great plan Brad! I’m shifting to 3 days a week too… had you noticed? I think it gives people more time to read and comment, as well as me to breathe.
I like the idea of humour too, partly because it makes me smile, but mainly it’s because it’s when I ‘hear’ you most clearly.
Best wishes with all your business adn blogging goals

Hi Barbara, It’s good to hear your support of my plan! I also look forward to more coffee and discussion with you in 2009. Our last meet was instrumental in getting me focused. I hope you got something out of it as well. Happy New Year!
Hi Joanna, You are on a 3 day schedule too? I guess I had noticed less frequent posts, but attributed it to a holiday hangover … Isn’t it interesting we both made that choice? It does seem to make sense.

Hi Brad. I too have chosen to write fewer posts. Part of this is to do with more and more time in front of clients ( which is a different way of working for me ) and part of it is the same as Joanna – to take time to breath, reflect and indeed read other people’s stuff!
I would like to wish you all the best for 2009 and I will follow the progress of How to Write a Website with interest.
Jackie Camerons last blog post..What’s possible? You won’t know until you try
Hi Jackie, Perhaps slowing down is just a natural progression in blogging. As much as I enjoy writing, five serious posts a week is a daunting task. Sounds like you have many exciting opportunities on the horizon this year – best of luck!

I’m a huge fan of blogging with less frequency and more value. My dog appreciates the extra time spent walking.

Great goals Brad, and your desire for more community is refreshing, as you lay out plans for people to come by when they can and not to feel pressured when they cannot. Thanks for that – because that attitude along builds cool communities:-) Happy 2009!

What refreshing projects you have in mind for 2009. They’ll get you out of bed in the morning with excitement. What a great way to line up your goals!
Brad,
Reducing your blogging schedule to 3 times a week gives me the time to visit your blog more regularly and read everyone of your posts – so I deeply support that plan!

Thanks for sharing your 2009 goals. I’ve nailed down a few of my own but am still trying to finalize what I want to accomplish this year. It’s always helpful to see what other people are doing in terms of goal setting and now I have a few new ideas.

Hi Robyn, Ulla, Melissa – Thank you for the feedback and support. Thanks to all your comments, I’ve learned that cutting back on posting is a popular and positive change, which is contrary to what I expected. Good luck with your own goals for 2009!
