Let Buyers Buy

This week, David Meerman Scott writes about asking for the order, a subject I had recently touched on (and I do mean, touched). Meerman’s story of frustration is highly instructive for marketers. When composing sales messages, it’s a good idea to start at the end and work backwards. And–the best place to end is with a sale.

Some people want to absorb lots of information before making a purchase. Others do not. The exact moment when an online customer will make a buying decision is unknowable. Therefore, it’s crucial for an e-commerce Web site to have an ORDER NOW link prominently displayed on every page.

Buyers are hard to please. They don’t like to be “sold”. But they also don’t like to be ignored when they want to buy something.
